Straw Wattle:
Straw wattles are tube shaped erosion-control devices filled with 100% Midwest weed-free straw. They are a Cost-effective alternative to silt fences. Each Wattle is wrapped with biodegradable netting, eliminating the need for retrieval of materials after the straw has broken down. Straw Wattles are recognized as an EPA best management practice (BMP) for their ability to capture and retain sediment.
Advantages:
• Slows water runoff from sloping sites allowing sediment to settle out and water to pass slowly through while -----being filtered at the same time
• Blend in with surrounding landscape and are less obtrusive than silt fence or straw bales
• Quick and simple installation, and can be left in place after vegitation is established
• Available in 9in. x 25ft. or 12in. x 20ft.
Applications:
• Cost-effective alternative to silt fence
• Can be placed along the contour of newly constructed or disturbed sites
• Shortens slope length, disrupting sheet flow runoff
• Along the perimeter of a construction project
• Around sidewalks and curb drains, ensuring storm water is carried to proper drainage area
• As check dams in drainage ditches
• Along stream banks and shorelines reducing the effects of sedimentation to receiving waters
